2025 Summer Picnic – Postscript

Our annual mid-season picnic was July 10, 2025. League members did the cooking, so a big shout-out to Danny Vierra for sweating all day for us. He was ably assisted by Board Members George Lima and Ken Cardoza.

This year’s charity recipient was the Modesto Empire Little League. In addition to a check, we took up a collection of youth baseball equipment to pass along.

Thanks to everyone who donated to our fund-raising, and thanks for buying tickets also!

2025 Elections

It’s that time again; elections for the Stanislaus Senior Softball Association Board of Directors will be held soon. The Board consists of 4 Officers (2 year terms), and 9 Directors (3 year terms). Terms are staggered so that 3 Directors and 2 Officers are elected per year.

Elections this year will be for President, Treasurer, and 3 Director seats.

Nominations are now open for these positions. You may suggest yourself or others.

Email your nominees to:  pres@stanssa.com. Or, you may communicate with your league’s Commissioner. For questions, contact Board President Al Sterling (209-581-8344).

Deadline for nominations is July 24, 2025. Elections will be held during games August 12-14.

2025 Summer Picnic

Some details on our annual mid-season picnic, which will be Thursday night, July 10th. A reminder–this traditional event is for all players (and spouses) from EVERY league at no additional cost. This includes Tuesday, Wednesday, AND Thursday players.

Thursday leagues (Legends and LOTO) will be playing their regular games, so watch for foul balls. Also, we ask for your cooperation in making sure they get food. Players involved in early games will be given priority to eat, starting by 5:45pm. Serving for other members will start around 6:15pm–but feel free to come earlier and reserve a shady spot.

The menu will include tri-tip and hot dogs, and sides of salad and beans. Water and dessert will be provided; feel free to bring your beverages of choice.

As part of our Association’s charter, we make significant donations to worthy community organizations every year. This year’s recipient will be the Modesto Empire Little League. In addition to cash, we are taking up a collection of youth baseball equipment to pass along. Bins will be available at the picnic to collect anything your family doesn’t need anymore.

A sizeable portion of the donation comes from the raffles we hold during the picnic. In order to purchase the prizes for the raffles, team captains in each league will be asking for modest donations from all players. (Donations of prizes themselves are welcome, also.)

In an effort to cut costs, SSSA Board members and volunteers will be cooking and serving this year.

A Dubious Achievement in the Golden League

On Wed. May 21st, history was made in Stanislaus Senior Softball.

Dr.Modi beat Perkos 11 zip in 7 innings.

Bats were spotted in or near the Perkos dugout. One of Perkos sluggers said there were no instructions provided with the bats.

Dr. Modi pitcher said his spitball was really moving today.

Sponsors Needed for 2025

We still need Sponsors for the 2025 season! These donations help defray the cost of shirts and hats.

If you or anyone in your circle can help, please contact Lisa Stout or your nearest Board member as soon as you can. [We print shirts late March, so need all details wrapped up–logos, colors, etc.–well before then.]

Thanks for your help!

Fundraiser

Some of our LOTO members will be participating in a “Granny Basketball” fundraiser, and seek our support.

The event takes place on Sunday, March 16, starting at 2pm. It will be held at the Valley Home School, 13231 Pioneer Ave., Oakdale.

2025 Pre-Season Dinner

We start the pre-pre-season with a spread and the Association’s annual General Meeting. Here players (and spouses) visit with buddies they haven’t seen in days/weeks/months, eat, celebrate last season’s award winners and newest Hall of Fame inductees, and generally tell tall tales. It all happens here:

Wednesday, Feb 19, 2025, 6:30 pm
Riverbank Community Center
3600 Santa Fe Ave, Riverbank CA 95367

You can register at the dinner and still qualify for “early-bird” discounts. See you there!

[If you didn’t receive our snail mail, or just need another copy of the registration form, you can download it on our Forms page.]

2025 Registration

Registration for the upcoming 2025 SSSA season is now open! Those who were registered last year will receive paper forms in the mail. Your early registration helps our Association meet pre-season expenses (balls, uniforms, etc.); we reward this via discounts. Any questions can be directed to League Commissioners, Board members, or by email via our Contact form (you can also email directly to web@stanssa.com).

Please remember to sign the form to complete the process!

NOTE: Mailing of the forms was inadvertently delayed, but you should have received them by now.

If you did not receive snail mail, or just need another copy, you can download it on our Forms page. There is the form to return there, as well as a separate letter outlining important dates of the season. NOTE: clicking on the registration form may open it in Acrobat Reader on your device. If it does, you may type in all the info; once you’ve done so, print the page–sign the bottom!–then submit it.

We’re holding the line on prices while we can. Please spread the word about our leagues–we need more players! To that end, find a poster you can print and distribute on the Forms page. [That’s just one idea–if anyone has other design suggestions, please help us out!]

Winter Practice Hours

Batting practices now start at 11a.m., Monday and Thursday. The pick-up games remain Wednesdays at 11a.m. (all at Beyer Park, subject to weather and field availability).

For those unfamiliar, members of SSSA gather to hold informal batting practices throughout the off-season. Any current–or prospective–member is welcome. Some come to every one; some just come when able. Just show up–and shag your share of balls.

This is NOT an official League-related event, and Stanislaus Senior Softball Association assumes no responsibility for these events.

Who knows–an informal cook-out may even break out afterwards….
